Disk Material Inflates Gaia RUWE Values in Single Stars

چکیده

Abstract An understanding of the dynamical evolution binary star systems, and their effects on stellar planetary evolution, requires well-characterized populations across ages. However, observational resources required to find characterize binaries are expensive. With release high-precision Gaia astrometry, re-normalized unit weight error (RUWE) statistic has been shown reveal presence with RUWE values greater than 1.2 indicating a companion within ∼1″. Our goal is assess whether this new diagnostic, which was developed for field-age systems (>1 Gyr), applies young systems; specifically, those that host circumstellar disks. control sample single-star compiled from high-contrast imagining surveys Taurus Upper Scorpius star-forming regions, we compare without We show protoplanetary disk alone can result in inflated values. Based distribution disk-bearing single stars, suggest more conservative single-star—binary threshold warranted material. place cutoff at distribution’s 95th percentile, = 2.5.

The Gaia mission Pulsating stars with Gaia

Gaia is a cornerstone mission of the European Space Agency (ESA) selected in 2000, with a target launch date of 2011. The Gaia mission will perform a survey of about 1 billion sources brighter than V = 20. Its goal is to provide astrometry leading to parallaxes, proper-motions and positions. Astrometric data are complemented by multicolour photometry and a spectroscopic instrument (up to V = 17...

Simulating multiple stars in preparation for Gaia

The scientific preparation of the Gaia mission encompasses both the data reduction algorithms and the generation of simulated data which have to be as realistic as possible. In this respect, binaries and multiple stars are a mandatory component in the simulation of the Milky Way as they impact on the performance tests of the on-ground data processing. The ingredients for the simulation of multi...

Gaia and the Evolution of Young Stars

I summarize some of the main problems concerning the evolution of low mass (M < 1:5M) stars from the formation to the main sequence phase and point out the unique potentiality of GAIA in shedding light on the hidden parameters which govern these phases of stellar evolution. GAIA will also be able to monitor the evolution of young massive brown dwarfs in the phase of deuterium burning. 1 Questio...

What will Gaia tell us about the Galactic disk ?

Gaia will provide parallaxes and proper motions with accuracy ranging from 10 to 1000 microarcsecond on up to one billion stars. Most of these will be disk stars: for an unreddened K giant at 6 kpc, it will measure the distance accurate to 2% and the transverse velocity to an accuracy of about 1 km/s. Gaia will observe tracers of Galactic structure, kinematics, star formation and chemical evolu...
